BENTONG: Continuous heavy rain yesterday resulted in flash floods at Kampung Bukit Tinggi near here, which is the second incident this year.
The incident at 9pm last night saw murky water gushing down from the hill towards the lower section of Bukit Tinggi town, submerging shops and houses and covering them in mud.
Several videos of the horrific incident, which have gone viral on social media, showed muddy water washing through homes and vehicles, carrying debris and furniture.
Bentong member of parliament Young Syefura Othman said cleanup works had begun after the floodwaters receded.
"When I went there(last night), the water level had gone down, but the water flowing from uphill was still moving rapidly. I inspected the affected roads and fallen trees along with the police, fire, and rescue department.
"Chalet and homestay operators, including those camping at Janda Baik and Bukit Tinggi, are reminded to be careful with the current weather pattern. Adhere to the orders from the authorities, including if there is a need to vacate the site," she wrote on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry, in a social media posting, wrote that its minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad along with Young Syefura had visited the affected settlements today.
On Feb 12 this year, some 300 villagers were evacuated after a water column and mud flood hit Kampung Bukit Tinggi and Janda Baik.
