MELAKA: The number of flood evacuees in the state has risen, with 264 people from 71 families now placed in temporary relief centres (PPS).
As of last night, 224 people were seeking shelter in three PPS.
Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change, and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin said water levels in the affected areas have yet to subside.
The flood victims include residents from Taman Rambai Jaya, Taman Rambai Utama, Kampung Bukit Datuk A, and Kampung Pantai Kundur.
Rais, who is also the Paya Rumput assemblyman, said the floods that struck several areas in his constituency, as well as Pantai Kundor and Klebang, were among the worst in the past three years.
"I will visit the affected areas along with the Melaka Historic City Council and the Irrigation and Drainage Department to identify issues contributing to the flooding.
"We will take immediate action to address the situation," he said.
Earlier, Rais also visited flood victims at a PPS in the state.
