PADANG TERAP: A clouded leopard was found dead in front of Masjid Al Huda Gajah Mati in Jalan Naka, early this morning.
Padang Terap Civil Defence Force officer Lt (PA) Roshidi Kassim said the district operations control centre received a call regarding the discovery of a leopard that had been hit at the location at 3.04am.
A team, led by Lance Corporal (PA) Mohd Ridzuan Rashid, arrived at the location at 3.45am.
"Upon their arrival, a dead leopard, believed to be a male weighing 30kg, was found by the main road from Pokok Sena to Naka.
"The clouded leopard was then handed to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan)," he said.
Kedah Perhilitan director Jamalun Nasir Ibrahim said the department is still investigating the presence of the clouded leopard, known by its scientific name as 'Neofelis nebulosa', in the area.
The clouded leopard is listed as an endangered species.
