KAJANG: The facilities upgrade for the monorail system including the automated platform screen door is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of next year, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
Loke said the doors has not been functioning in the past few years.
This is because the rail system and the platform could not be integrated as the original contractor was no longer in operations.
"A new contractor has been appointed and they are upgrading it.
"The problem now is that they are (automated) doors but it cannot be closed (and not functioning). They are already cases of some disabled people falling down (to the tracks as the doors are not closed)," he said after launching the MRT Kajang Line Women's Coach, here, today.
He added that the disabled community were among those who frequented the monorail, especially the blind as they used the monorail en route to Brickfields to work.
