KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government will relook at the awarding of the contract on the implementation of the multi-lane free flow (MLFF) project for all highways.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this was to ensure the award of contract was made according to the right process and had been done transparently.
"We will have to relook at the whole process whether it (the awarding of the contract for the development of the project) adhered to the full process.
"Having said that, we must go through the normal process (in the award of government's contract).
"There is no basis to assume that the process went through a negotiated tender.
"We must go through a proper process that is done in a transparent manner. I have made this clear on many occassions," Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said.
He was asked to comment on a report by an online portal on the protest by 32 highway concessionaires against the move by the government to directly award a private company the MLFF project.
He was speaking to reporters after joining a congregation to perform Friday prayers at Masjid Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya near here today.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi had previously said the ministry would be carrying out several studies to introduce improvement measures, especially those related to the legal aspect, in the implementation of the project.
Nanta had explained that the planning and approval processes for the development and implementation of the MLFF project were made by the previous government in 2021.
Quoting sources in the know, the report had claimed that the government had signed an appointment agreement with the company on Nov 17, awarding the RM3.46 billion project without consulting the concessionaires, which will foot the bill for the implementation of the project.
