Potholes resembling 'landmines' on Pahang roads, state govt urged to lay out action plan

KUANTAN: Pahang Pas has compared pothole-ridden roads in Pahang caused by the monsoon season to "landmines" which endangers the safety of motorists.

Pahang Pas Youth information chief Ahmad Azlan Abu Bakar said the issue of pothole-filled roads resembling landmines would resurface each monsoon season to "trap" road users.

"We cannot deny the state (Pahang) government and the relevant agencies have taken the necessary efforts. However, the people are suffering due to the poor road conditions especially during the monsoon season.

"Road users are affected by the declining conditions which cause tyre punctures, accidents, dented rims and others that can lead to financial repercussions," he wrote on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Azlan said several roads have been damaged too often including Jalan Perindustrian Gebeng in the Beserah state constituency, Jalan Maran-Temerloh and other stretches in several constituencies suffered similar fate.

He said issues involving poor road conditions had been highlighted on several occasions by Perikatan Nasional and Pas elected representatives including Beserah assemblyman Andansura Rabu during the state assembly sitting.

"Several other elected representatives raised about the damaged roads in their respective constituencies during the state assembly which are like landmines for road users.

"Pahang Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail), Works minister (Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi) and state executive council member (Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff) have to find a long term solution as it involved the comfort and safety of road users. A proper solution has to be identified and executed to ensure motorist safety," he wrote.

Meanwhile, Fakhruddin told reporters yesterday that the Pahang government had applied for over RM700 million from the federal government to repair and maintain roads across the state this year.

He was reported as saying that more road issues occurred during the rainy season and these stretches required proper maintenance to remain in proper condition.

Last week, Wan Rosdy said Pahang had requested additional allocations to carry out repair works on damaged roads especially federal routes across the state and the matter was raised during his meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya on Jan 8.
