SUNGAI PETANI: The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) is calling on the government to raise the salaries of civil servants deemed insufficient to cover living expenses.
They are asking the government to implement the salary raise without waiting for the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) to come into effect.
Cuepacs president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat said that even though the government, through the Public Service Department (PSD), has indicated that the SSPA may be completed by the end of this year, Cuepacs wants the salary increase for civil servants to be carried out promptly, without waiting for the system to be ready.
Adnan said this while attending the Kedah Civil Servants Joint Assembly for the Year 2024 at the Sungai Petani municipal council's Sultan Abdul Hamid Memorial Hall, today.
"What we propose is a RM300 increase, and it will be readjusted when SSPA is ready later. If the government is unable, Cuepacs will continue with the demand. Perhaps not in the form of salary but in the form of a special allowance, and this allowance will be closed when the system is ready, and the government announces the salary adjustment," he said.
According to Adnan, so far, all demands presented by Cuepacs have been taken seriously by the government.
"The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) said that civil servants should receive good returns and be given fair wages for their work.
"All Cuepacs' demands are being considered by the government; perhaps there is a slight delay in the implementation of this remuneration system. Hence, we request that the salary increase be implemented earlier," he said.
