Jubilant crowds line the streets to celebrate inauguration of Sultan Ibrahim as Malaysia's 17th King [WATCH]

JOHOR BARU: Throngs of jubilant crowds filled the streets early this morning to convey their best wishes to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, who is set to be inaugurated as Malaysia's 17th King.

His Majesty departed Istana Bukit Serene enroute to Kuala Lumpur, where he will be sworn in as the King of Malaysia at Istana Negara.

His Majesty boarded his private plane, passing through the Johor Military Forces guard of honour.

Johor Royal Household Comptroller of the Colonel (R) Datuk Mohamed Perang Musa, led three cries of "Daulat Tuanku" before His Majesty boarded the plane.


Present at the Senai Airport Royal Hanger were the ruler's brother Tunku Aris Bendahara Tunku Abdul Majid Sultan Iskandar, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Defence Minister Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Johor Royal Council president Datuk Dr Abdul Rahim Ramli, to bid farewell to His Majesty.

Upon arriving at Istana Negara, the King will engage in a meeting with other rulers during the Oath-Taking Ceremony, sign the Letter of Appointment, and participate in the official proclamation of Sultan Ibrahim as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

His Majesty's election as the new King was decided during the 263rd Special Meeting of the Council of Rulers on Oct 27th last year, where he was chosen by his fellow rulers.
