Istana Budaya to be closed from Jan 15 for renovation

KUALA LUMPUR: Istana Budaya is set to undergo a temporary closure for renovation purposes, commencing on Jan 15.

Its director-general Zubaidah Mukhta confirmed the closure, citing the approval from Public Works Department (JKR).

"This closure is essential to facilitate enhancements and maintenance tasks, with a particular focus on upgrading the roof structure of Istana Budaya," she said in a statement today.

Assuring the public, Zubaidah mentioned that Istana Budaya will reopen its doors on Jan 5, 2026, aligning with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

"During this closure period, Istana Budaya will actively engage in nationwide performances through the Gerak Campaign, showcasing its flagship offerings such as the Malaysian Traditional Orchestra (OTM), the National Symphony Orchestra (OSK), and Artistana.

"Istana Budaya remains committed to fostering smart partnerships with local companies and collaborating with homegrown artistic talents to organise compelling performances, both domestically and internationally."
