DARO: Pulau Bruit has been identified as a suitable location for cultivating hybrid rice due to its fertile land, ideal for agricultural activities, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.
Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier Department, said that Pulau Bruit could be designated as one of the hybrid rice cultivation areas in Sarawak.
He requested that all Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK) in Pulau Bruit collaborate in the process of collecting data related to rice farming activities throughout the island.
"This data will serve as a benchmark for the proposal to turn Pulau Bruit into one of the hybrid rice granaries in Sarawak," he said while speaking at the 2024 Daro District Leaders' Aspiration Meeting with KMKK in Daro on Feb 19.
He further said Pulau Bruit residents have been cultivating rice for decades, employing traditional methods once a year, which underscores the island's potential for agricultural development.
Datuk Abdullah added that development projects involve processes that require the participation of various agencies and can be time-consuming.
He, therefore, called for close cooperation between village leaders and implementing agencies to ensure the smooth execution of upcoming projects.
