Sarawak governor turns chef, whips up nostalgic chicken rice recipe

KUALA LUMPUR: Before he was appointed as the 8th Yang DiPertua Negeri of Sarawak early this year, Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was widely known for his extensive experience in the country's political scene.

The former Dewan Negara president and law minister recently revealed another side of himself by showcasing his cooking skills when he and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, hosted TVSarawak's Aroma Astana programme.

During the programme, Wan Junaidi shared with the audience his version of a chicken rice recipe, which he came up with during his years studying in the United Kingdom.

Wan Junaidi said he came up with the recipe because he was always craving the chicken rice sold at Winslow, which is located more than an hour's drive from the university he attended.

"I devised the recipe so that I could study, do my revisions, and (manage) other (tasks).

"This is how I cooked chicken rice when I was studying at university in 1978.

"And this recipe is over 40 years old," he said.

Fauziah did not let her husband outshine her when she shared several recipes with the audience, including udang masak lemak darat, her version of fried rice, sambal udang, and pudding.

"What made the dishes even tastier is that they are made with a touch of love," said Wan Junaidi as he praised Fauziah's cooking.
