Penang Hill new ticket pricing announced, effective May 1

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) will revise the ticket fare for the funicular service effective May 1.

Under the new pricing, a Normal Lane two-way ticket for MyKad/MyKid/Valid Resident ID holders (MM2H, i-Kad, Work Permit, Spouse of Malaysian Citizen) will be priced at RM16 for adults and RM8 for children (ages four to 12) and senior citizens (age 60 years and above).

It is now priced at RM12 and

RM6 respectively.

As for Normal Lane one-way ticket for MyKad/MyKid/Valid Resident ID holders, tickets will be priced at RM8 for adult and RM4 for children senior citizens.

Sunrise tickets for MyKad and MyKid holders, which are available during off-peak seasons, will be priced at RM5.

The last ticket fare revision was made back in 2019.

PHC said, like all other services, its funicular service too had been impacted by the ever-increasing operational and maintenance, as well as infrastructure, cost.

"PHC constantly invests in upgrading the facilities and amenities on Penang Hill to enhance the experience of our visitors.

"The increase in operations and maintenance cost is also attributed to inflation and the weakening of our currency exchange rate.

"These unavoidable circumstances have led PHC to the need to review the ticket fares from time to time," it said today.

PHC said, to ensure that the funicular service remains accessible to the MyKad/MyKid holders and local residents, it had ensured that the ticket fares remained affordable.

"Despite the revised pricing scheme, the Penang Hill funicular ticket price remains one of the most affordable worldwide.

"PHC never compromises on its safety standards in the management and operations of the funicular system and Penang Hill facilities, for the comfort and safety of our visitors.

"PHC would like to thank all visitors for their constant support to Penang Hill, making it the hill resort of choice in Malaysia and the region."
