KUANTAN: Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail today confirmed that he had received the names of potential assemblymen to be nominated into the state legislative assembly.
The Pahang legislative assembly can appoint five assemblymen without going through the election process. A motion to amend the State Constitution was passed in 2020.
Wan Rosdy said all the parties had submitted the potential names of individuals to be nominated as assemblymen during the next state assembly sitting in May.
"I am in the midst of obtaining the names (potential assemblymen) from the related party presidents. MCA has submitted the name...Amanah has also sent in the name.
"A decision (announcement) will be made only after I obtain the names and receive the approval from all the parties in the unity government...some (parties) submitted a few names," he told reporters after presenting Ramadan aid to mosques and surau here today.
In Nov 2020, the Pahang legislative assembly approved the motion to amend the state constitution to appoint five assemblymen without going through the election process.
The five assemblymen can participate in debates and have the right to vote but are not eligible to be elected as menteri besar or state executive council members.
On Feb 20, Pahang Amanah Youth chief Wan Rahmat Wan Hashim said Wan Rosdy made an announcement to elect an assemblyman from Amanah during a Chinese New Year open house organised by Parti Keadilan Rakyat at the Kuantan City Council Complex here on Feb 1.
Wan Rahmat said Amanah welcomed the announcement as it would strengthen the unity government in Pahang.
Attempts made by New Straits Times to get Pahang MCA chairman Datuk Chong Sin Woon
to comment proved futile.
