PUCHONG: School canteens will remain operational during Ramadan for students, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
She said it is a part of the standard operating procedure for schools every year during the holy month.
However, she said schools must provide guidance and education to non-Muslims to teach mutual respect for those who are fasting.
"Besides that, there must be an education for awareness and respect, especially for schools with non-Muslim students.
"The process to understand and respect one another is very important in the context of Ramadan.
"I believe teachers have the experience to handle any rising issues or in terms of (teaching) respect being given to everyone," she said during a visit SK Saujana Putra, Jenjarom, here as the school begins for the 2024 and 2025 session.
Meanwhile, the newly-opened SK Saujana Putra opens its doors on the first day with over 2,000 students and 90 teachers for morning and evening sessions.
