MOE: Zero tolerance for teacher sexual misconduct, all cases must be reported

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry (MOE) says it views cases of sexual misconduct involving teachers and students seriously.

The MOE released a statement today, in light of a school teacher being investigated by police for allegedly grooming her Form Five student as reported by the media.

"This case is under MOE's scrutiny and actions have been taken in accordance with existing guidelines.

"MOE is also ready to provide full cooperation to the ongoing investigations by the authorities," the statement said.

"There is no tolerance for sexual misconduct in MOE educational institutions. Therefore, all parties are urged to report cases of sexual crimes so that strict actions can be taken."

It added that all educational institutions under the MOE are required to adhere to the guidelines for managing sexual misconduct which are currently in effect, aimed at safeguarding the safety and well-being of students.

Following police confirmation, the accused female teacher has since been referred to a hospital for checks.

Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said the woman, 37, was referred to the hospital after the police found bruise-like red marks on the neck of the student.
