KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has slammed Bersatu's Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal over claims that the opposition received a "draft" of the allocations for their constituencies.
At a press conference in Parliament, Fahmi, who is also the government spokesman, said Wan Fayhsal should "keep his mouth shut".
This comes after Wan Fayhsal claimed that a representative of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, a copy of the "draft".
"I believe that Machang (Wan Fayhsal) might feel compelled to rectify the situation as mentioned by the opposition leader (Hamzah) last week that there was a draft.
"However, the deputy prime minister who reported to the Cabinet during a meeting last week said there was no draft and this has been confirmed in the meeting itself.
"This (the meeting) was the official channel and the claims (by Wan Fayhsal) made are informal. Hence, I feel he should keep his mouth shut if he does not know anything," he said.
Fahmi also said he has checked with the Prime Minister's Office and the prime minister's political secretaries on the matter.
"They confirmed that no draft was provided."
Hamzah and several opposition leaders have met Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof on the issue of allocations for the opposition.
Subsequently, Hamzah who is also Larut MP reportedly said that the opposition had received a draft document detailing matters related to negotiations on allocations for opposition-held constituencies.
Fadillah has denied Hamzah's claims.
