KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities are probing the case involving a piece of dirty rag allegedly found in a murtabak purchased from the Desa Pandan Ramadan bazaar.

The Health Ministry, in a statement to the New Straits Times, said the investigation is being conducted by the Federal Territories Health Department and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

"The Health Ministry is aware of complaints regarding a piece of cloth found inside a murtabak purchased at the Desa Pandan Ramadan Bazaar, Kuala Lumpur, which went viral on Facebook.

"Further investigation is still being conducted by the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Federal Territory Health Department and DBKL," it said.

Yesterday, NST reported that Yuhaiza Hamid said her family vomited after finding a dirty rag inside a murtabak allegedly purchased from the Desa Pandan Ramadan Bazaar.

The Health Ministry reminded all food operators and traders to ensure good hygiene and food safety standards and to practice the health education that has already been provided to them.

Meanwhile, Yuhaiza, in another Facebook post yesterday, said she has left matters to the authorities to investigate.

She said her family could not accept what had happened to them.

"Let the Health Ministry do their job; I will leave it to them.

"To those who commented that it was kain bunjut and others, please rethink how you would feel if you and your family found that cloth of that color when breaking fast.

"I'm sorry, but we can't think positively about the issues of food hygiene. If kain bunjut or others can be found in our food... what else could there be?" she said.

Earlier today, NST reported that the Health Ministry had issued three compound notices after receiving 19 complaints regarding cleanliness and food safety issues at Ramadan bazaars nationwide.

Of the 19 complaints, eight were resolved, and one premise was closed in line with Section 11 of the Food Act 1983.
