KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani adopted a nothing-to-lose attitude to beat Muhammad Shohibul Fikri-Daniel Marthin, booking their place in the China Open final today.
The world No. 12 recorded a 21-14, 24-22 victory over the Indonesians, gaining revenge after their second-round defeat to the world No. 88 at the Hong Kong Open last week.
"I think Shohibul-Daniel were under more pressure today, wanting to beat us again," Sze Fei told the Badminton World Federation.
"On the other hand, we were relaxed and approached the match with a nothing-to-lose attitude. The key to our victory was our good communication on the court."
Izzuddin added that their speed was crucial in surprising their opponents.
"Shohibul-Daniel excel in the first three shots, so we focused on using our speed to catch them off guard," he said. "Since turning pro, I don't think our game has changed much. We've just focused on our rotations and match strategy."
With the victory, Sze Fei-Izzuddin, who won the Japan Open last month, will now play in their first Super 1000 final tomorrow. It's also their first final as an independent pair.
"No matter what, we will do our best to win the title," added Sze Fei.
