MERSING: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia has decreed for the responsible parties overseeing the combat diving pool construction at Kem Iskandar, here, to clarify the reasons behind the delay.
Sultan Ibrahim, who is also the Special Forces Group (GGK) Colonel Commandant, is furious that the pool, which should have been fully completed by December 2022, is still under construction.
"I was informed yesterday that six extensions were applied to extend the construction works by the relevant parties, and today, I found out that the project signboard at the construction site has been demolished.
"Why was it demolished? I want this matter to be clarified by the Johor public works department and the Mersing district engineer," read a post on Sultan Ibrahim's Facebook, today.
His Majesty also decreed for the reinstallation of the project signboard at the construction site.
The New Straits Times had carried several reports in the past years, on Sultan Ibrahim's decree for the pool to be constructed for the 21st Group Gerak Khas commandos' training purposes.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the pool was officiated by Sultan Ibrahim in May, 2018.
Earlier, NST contacted Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who said the project was awarded to the Public Works Department.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi's office said investigations were underway to establish the delays.
