Five classrooms damage in Changlun school fire; no students or teachers harmed

KUBANG PASU: A fire broke out at SK Lata Selatan in Changlun today, damaging five classrooms.

Fortunately, the incident happened during after-school hours and neither students nor teachers were harmed.

Bukit Kayu Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief Zulkifli Manaf said fire engines and firefighters were rushed to the scene following distress calls at 3.09pm.

"Upon arrival, the fire was found to have started from a third-floor classroom and had spread to the roof section.

"The blaze was contained by 3.40pm, with no casualties reported. The fire burnt 70 per cent of the affected area which involved five classrooms," he said in a statement today.

Zulkifli said overhaul operations were conducted to prevent any reignition of flames.

"The students had already left the premises when the fire broke out. The school's security guard was the one who spotted the fire," he added.
