KUALA LUMPUR: In the latest episode of Beyond the Headlines, we address issues and solutions for KLIA, the steep surge in flight fares, poor condition of roads in Sabah and regulation complications for e-hailing services.
Transport consultant Wan Agyl Wan Hassan joins us this week to discuss some of the airport's accessibility woes and maintenance concerns.
Agyl, who was formerly the head of operation policy and planning division at SPAD (now known as Land Public Transport Agency or APAD), said while rankings serve as a valuable indicator, they should not be the sole determinant of an airport's performance.
Instead, KLIA must focus on tangible improvements to regain its standing as a world-class airport by revisiting the airport's amenities.
KLIA's aerotrain system was also highlighted with AI-powered monitoring systems, presenting an opportunity to enhance safety and efficiency within the airport's transit network.
However, Agyl posed the possibility of expanding the technology used to feed information not just on maintenance but also other evolving traveller expectations.
He also helped to address the nature of fare hikes for flights during festive periods which has been a significant barrier to travel with ease among locals.
Agyl also helped to break down what contractors' work packages are like in light of Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya disclosing that the government had identified 710km of roads in poor condition across Sabah as of 2023.
