BINTULU: Emphasising the transformative power of education, Selangau member of Parliament (MP) Edwin Banta highlighted the crucial need for educational enhancements in rural communities, the Sarawak Public Communications Unit reported.
Speaking at a recent briefing on current issues held at Rumah Maong Anggat, Banta reiterated his commitment as a representative to ensure that the children in the Selangau parliamentary area receive the highest quality education, enabling them to pursue higher education and change their families' fortunes.
"Education can one day change the destiny of their families, which is why it is my main agenda as a representative.
"To support this, students from the Selangau parliamentary area who successfully enrol in public universities will receive a one-time financial aid of RM1,200," Banta said.
Banta also discussed his focus on economic development alongside education, citing palm oil and coffee cultivation as key to enhancing family incomes due to their high yield and ease of management.
During the event, Banta also presented cheques to eight Village Development and Security Committees of Longhouses in the Selangau area, reinforcing his support for community-driven development initiatives.
