KUALA LUMPUR: "I heard a loud boom sound before I saw a tree falling on several vehicles.
This was what a witness, Adey Iskandar Jalaluddin, 47, saw when an uprooted tree fell on a busy road in Jalan Sultan Ismail here today .
The bank officer said during the 2pm incident, he was in his office near the location of the incident.
Shocked to see what happened, he rushed out of his office to go the scene and saw many members of the public helping two to three people who were trapped under the tree.
"The tree fell on a major thoroughfare and we found out that the cars were stopping because of a red light.
"I don't know know if there are still people trapped under there or not because firemen were cutting tree branches," he told Harian Metro.
A spokesman from the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department confirmed the incident and said a statement would be released.
Adey claimed that at least nine vehicles were trapped under the fallen tree.
A man was killed after an uprooted tree fell on his car in the Jalan Sultan Ismail incident today.
The Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department had said that the two victims were extricated from the car by personnel.
The deceased, a 47-year-old male, was confirmed dead by paramedics at the scene.
While the second victim, a 26-year-old male who sustained injuries, was taken to hospital.
Ciy Hall's Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre (KLCCC DBKL) had also reported about the fallen tree, which led to both lanes on the road to be closed temporarily.
