KKB by-election: Bukit Fraser polling centre closes; 18 out of 40 registered voters cast ballots [NSTTV]

KUALA KUBU BAHARU: The constituency's farthest, smallest and highest polling centre in terms of altitude, SJKC Bukit Fraser, has closed its doors.

The polling centre on the Selangor side of Fraser's Hill stopped operating at exactly at 2pm.

According to the Election Commission, a total of 40 voters are registered to cast their ballots at the centre.

As of its closing time, an election worker said only 18 people had cast their ballot with the last voter turning up at around 12.30pm.

SJKC Bukit Fraser is among 18 polling centres in Kuala Kubu Baharu and is the sole polling centre which is gazetted by the EC to close at 2pm.

It is the first polling centre to close ahead all the others which will only close at 6pm.

The EC had earlier said that 38.88 per cent of the total eligible voters have cast their ballots in the by-election as of 1pm today.

EC deputy chairman Azmi Shahrom said the commission has lowered its voter turnout target from 75 per cent to 60 per cent for today's by-election.

He said described the new target as 'more realistic' after taking into consideration the voter turnout during the state election in Selangor in August last year.

A total of 39,362 ordinary voters are eligible to vote in today's by-election, which was triggered by the death of its three-term incumbent, DAP's Lee Kee Hiong.
