HULU SELANGOR: A bedridden voter in the Kuala Kubu Baharu state constituency came in a private ambulance to cast his vote at the SMK Ampang Pechah polling centre here today.
Accompanied by his wife, stroke survivor, Zul Majid, arrived on a stretcher to fulfill his obligation to vote during the polling day for the by-election.
The 63-year-old said he does not want to miss the chance to make his voice heard by choosing the candidate he wanted to represent the people in the state constituency.
"Although my movement is limited, I still want to perform my civic duty since this is part of the 'fardhu ain' (obligatory acts that must be performed by each individual Muslim).
"If there are people who can assist me (to the polling centre), then I will definitely vote during the polling day.
"I want the person who will represent the people here to not only look after our welfare but also protect our welfare, religion irrespective of race and religion.
"What is important is that the elected representative must get to work once he or she is voted as our representative," he said.
His wife, Dalilah Abas, 61, said her husband was paralysed waist down since 2020.
"This time, my husband is looking forward to voting in this by-election. Thank you to all the election workers who have assisted my husband and I at the polling centre," she said.
