The Johor government has proposed 16 economic sectors that are expected to provide socio-economic benefits to the state and the nation.

"It involves the electricity and electronics sector; medical; pharmaceuticals; aviation, specialty chemicals; logistics, health and education sectors.

"In addition, it includes the financial sector and business services; energy; digital economy; tourism; food; agricultural technology; creative industry; Halal industry and manufacturing sectors," he said.

He said this when answering an question during the state assembly sitting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail, Kota Iskandar, here today.

Earlier, Hasrunizah Hassan (BN-Pulai Sebatang) wanted to know the latest status and development of the JS-SEZ.

Last January, economic analysts had speculated that the state government would develop the zone in the Sedenak and/ or Iskandar Puteri areas.

The proposal to develop the special economic zone was previously hoped o be able to make Johor enjoy the same success as Shenzhen in China, which flourished after four decades as a special economic zone.

in the meantime, Onn Hafiz who is the Machap state assemblyman said the state and federal governments were committed to ensuring that the JS-SEZ agreement can be finalised and signed with Singapore, later this year.

He said the memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and Singapore regarding the development of JS-SEZ was signed on Jan 11 during the official visit of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Singapore.

"The official negotiation session regarding JSS-SEZ with Singapore is scheduled to start next month.

"God willing, a business session will also be held by the Johor Government and the Economy Ministry together with all Johor assemblymen and community leaders scheduled for next month.

"I believe the session will be the best platform to provide feedback, suggestions and views to ensure the implementation of JS-SEZ truly benefits the people of Johor," he said.
