MACC arrests civil servant for misusing position to approve funds

SEREMBAN: A civil servant was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on suspicion of abusing his position to apply for and approve funds amounting to RM12,000, for his own benefit.

According to sources, the 44-year-old male suspect was arrested at about 7pm yesterday when he appeared at the Negri Sembilan MACC office here.

"A civil servant was arrested on suspicion of abusing his position by applying for and approving a loan last year.

"It was for the advance purpose of refurbishing a latex collection centre amounting to RM12,000 taken through funds from the Settlement Development and Security Committee (JKKR) for his own benefit," the source said today.

He added, the application for remand against the suspect was made at the magistrate's court, here, this morning.

"The suspect was allowed to be remanded for a period of seven days starting today until May 21 and detained in the Negri Sembilan MACC lockup while the investigation is carried out.

Negri Sembilan MACC director Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated in accordance with Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
