KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to plant 100 new trees to replace each tree that needs to be cut down.
This comes after Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa instructed DBKL to cut down high-risk trees after another tree fell on a vehicle in the city.
"I have given instructions to the KL Mayor (Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh), that for every tree that needs to be cut down, 100 new trees must be planted," he said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
On Monday, a tree in Jalan Pinang fell on a police escort vehicle. The occupants escaped unhurt.
Last week, a man was killed while another was injured after a tree fell on 17 vehicles near Jalan Sultan Ismail during a thunderstorm.
The fallen tree also damaged part of the KL monorail track, disrupting services for a day.
