KUALA LUMPUR: Driven by a desire to help flood victims, a group of undergraduate students from Ipoh invented a flexible storage bag to protect important belongings.
Known as Floodsack, the single-use flexible storage bag can float on water for an extended period.
Lee Wei Jin, 21, said he was inspired to invent the bag after witnessing frequent floods that resulted in huge losses across the country.
Lee and his peers then developed a solution to protect people's belongings.
"Floodsack is a waterproof bag that is buoyant. It can store belongings of up to 4kg for two weeks in a flood.
"Our main aim is to protect flood victims' belongings," he said at the 2024 International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
Lee hopes to find investors to expand Floodsack globally.
"We do not really make much money from this, but we want to help people, especially Malaysians, and be part of the flood solution.
ITEX is an annual exhibition aimed at cultivating the ability to think critically.
Researchers from Malaysia and abroad are participating in the two-day event.
ITEX exemplifies Malaysia's commitment to harnessing the power of innovation to drive economic growth and societal progress, while presenting opportunities for start-ups, corporates and research institutions to garner the attention of investors and venture capitalists.
The exhibition is held in conjunction with the World Young Investors Exhibition, including the Asian Young Investors Exhibition and Malaysian Young Investors Exhibition.
