JOHOR BARU: The 34-year-old suspect in the attack on the Ulu Tiram police station attack is believed to have some relation to a person allegedly involved in Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).
It is learnt that his house is several metres away from the police station.
Police raided his house and it is believed they found JI-related materials.
Ulu Tiram, in the past, was the place related to a big case involving the terrorist group.
Noordin Mohammad Top, who had been known as Asia's most wanted terrorist and led a more radical splinter group of the JI, was a religious student at a madrasah in Ulu Tiram, Johor in 1996 and 1997.
Noordin, 41, was killed by Indonesian security forces in Sept 17, 2009,
He had started a madrasah there and brought in religious teachers from Indonesia to his Madrasah At-Tarbiyyah Al-Islamiyyah Luqmanul Hakiem. The madrasah was shut down in early 2000s.
