Chronology of the attack at Ulu Tiram police station [NSTTV]

JOHOR BARU: An attack on Ulu Tiram police station early this morning resulted in the deaths of two policemen and the fatal shooting of the suspect. The incident has also led to the arrest of two university students.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, said the 22-year-old male and 21-year-old female students were detained for suspected involvement in the attack.

"They were detained for further investigation related to the attack. It is illogical to report a molest case from two years ago at 2.30am in the morning.

"Therefore, we will thoroughly investigate these two students," he said, detailing the chronology of the attack that occurred at 2.54am.

- 2.30am: Two college students, a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, arrived at the police station to file a report regarding an alleged molest incident that occurred two years ago.

- 2.35am: While the two students were making their report, a suspect entered the police station area on a motorcycle and proceeded to the back of the station.

: A policeman went to the back of the station to check, but was attacked and killed by the suspect. The suspect then seized his firearm.

: Two other policemen, alerted by the attack, rushed to the back of the station to investigate and engaged in a shootout with the suspect.

- 2.54am: One of the policemen was shot dead in the cheek. Another, despite being injured, managed to shoot and kill the suspect.

: The suspect was later identified as a member of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) group and believed to be attempting to seize firearms at the station.

: Checks revealed the suspect came prepared and was carrying a bag containing protective gear equipped with zinc, paper and cloth for combat with the police.

- 6.00am: Police later stormed the suspect's family home in Ulu Tiram. Five family members, aged between 19 and 62, believed to be JI members, were arrested.

: The two college students, believed to be connected to the attack, were detained for questioning.
