Missing angler in Pedu Lake found dead, believed to have drowned

PADANG TERAP: The body of a man who went missing in Pedu Lake after his boat capsized while he was fishing on Thursday was found today.

The deceased, identified as Ooi Swee Hin, 41, is believed to have drowned and was found at 8.05am, approximately 1.5 kilometres away from where the boat capsized.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Zone 1 chief Ahmad Aminudin Abd Rahim said the body was found shortly after search and rescue operations resumed.

"At 7.42am, search and rescue operations resumed with initial monitoring at the incident location.

"The victim was found at 8.05am during a surface search and then brought to the Pedu Operations Control Centre," he said in a statement today.

He added that the victim was handed over to the police at 9.05am for further action.

"It is believed that the victim drowned. Post mortem examinations will be conducted by Health Ministry personnel to confirm the cause of death," he added.

It was reported that a 41-year-old man had been missing since Thursday after his boat capsized during a fishing trip at Pedu Lake.

However, his 55-year-old friend was rescued by the public who noticed the incident before the Fire and Rescue Department arrived.
