KUALA LUMPUR: The Chinese Embassy in Malaysia has released a special commemorative music video to mark Malaysia-China's 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.
The song, titled 'Sayang Sayang My Dear Friend', features Malaysian singer Ah Niu and a music ensemble that showcases a rich blend of diverse traditional Chinese and Malaysian ethnic musical instruments such as sape (by Anderson Kalang), yangqin, sitar (by Kumar Kathigesu), rebana (by Ramli Mohram), liuqin, gambus (by Dollah Gambus al Linggi), as well as modern instruments including piano, electric guitar, and bass.
The song, which is four minutes and 19 seconds long, premiered on the embassy's official Facebook page on Tuesday.
Sung in Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and English, the song begins with "Sayang, sayang my dear friend, rakan sejati, kasih setinggi gunung. Senyuman mesramu, dalam hati ku, bagai alir sungai tak ada hujung" (My love, my love my dear friend, true companion, love as high as a mountain. Your warm smile, in my heart, is like a flowing river with no end).
It narrates the close friendship that Malaysia and China enjoy, and the aspiration that the relationship will continue to strive ahead together, inspiring both sides to realise a greater dream.
"Let this friendship roll like waves, let it flow forever, my friend, it's great that you are with me. Sayang sayang my dear friend", part of the lyrics read.
