Malaysia-China ties reach new heights as they mark 50 years of diplomacy

KUALA LUMPUR: The relationship between China and Malaysia has entered a new phase of historical development, steadily progressing towards building a community with a shared future.

China's Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing, expressed appreciation for the friendship and cooperation between the two nations across various sectors.

He emphasised the need for both countries to continue working together to strengthen the China-Malaysia community.

"This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia and the China-Malaysia Year of Friendship.

"High-level exchanges between the two nations have reached new heights, as evidenced by Chinese Premier Li Qiang's visit to Malaysia in June, and the visits of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to China in September and this month," he said at the opening ceremony of the third Ambassador Cup Badminton championship.

The tournament, held at the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Cheras Badminton Arena, featured 33 teams from various media agencies competing in men's and mixed doubles categories.

The New Straits Times (NST) pair, Raja Shah Amimarzuan and Jacquelyn Cheah Kah Ling won the mixed doubles championship.

Second place went to Andrew Tan Moh Ern and Chen Chew Hoong from China Press, while third place was secured by Chia Chin Ping and Lim Lee Kim from Sin Chew Daily.

In the men's doubles category, the champions were from Sin Chew Daily, followed by Malaysia China Insight in second place and Bernama in third.

Winners took home trophies and sports merchandise.
