KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia remains committed to continuing support for Iran amid the tragic loss of the late President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
This was relayed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a communication with Interim President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Mokhber today.
"Today I contacted (him) and conveyed condolences on the passing of the late President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who died in a helicopter crash on May 19.
"I informed him that Malaysia will send a senior Minister (Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu) to Iran to attend the funeral of the late President Raisi.
"I also recalled having two meetings with the late President Ebrahim Raisi and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian last year in New York and Riyadh, and assured Mokhber that Malaysia will continue the commitments made to Iran under the leadership of the late President," he said in a Facebook post.
Mokhber expressed appreciation to Malaysia for the goodwill mission and condolences, emphasising that both countries are strategic partners, valuing the highly elevated political and economic relations, he said in the post.
He also mourned the loss of two prominent figures in the tragic accident, besides leaving a strong impact in Iran, Anwar added.
At the end of the conversation, he assured that the good relations and cooperation with Malaysia will be maintained and strengthened.
