[UPDATED] Nine Malaysians on board SIA turbulence-hit flight hospitalised, one in critical condition

KUALA LUMPUR: Nine Malaysians, including a crew member, who were on board the Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 from London to Singapore yesterday, have been hospitalised due to injuries sustained during the flight.

One person is said to be in critical but stable condition.

This was confirmed by the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand, where the plane was forced to make an emergency landing after it was hit with severe turbulence.

Wisma Putra, in a statement, said the embassy is coordinating with local authorities and hospitals, with consular officers visiting Malaysians who were admitted to hospitals in Bangkok to provide consular assistance.

It said that currently, six Malaysians are being treated at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital and three at Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital.

They suffered physical and internal injuries, with one person reported to be in critical but stable condition.

All Malaysians hospitalised are being closely monitored and awaiting medical results.

Malaysians requiring consular assistance may contact the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok.

A total of 16 Malaysians were on board the flight.

The flight that was bound for Singapore was forced to make an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Bangkok, yesterday following severe turbulence it encountered.
