KTMB to enforce stricter guidelines for future events on its trains, says Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the party on a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) train was beyond his ministry's knowledge.

He said that KTMB had provided an explanation and indicated that they would enforce stricter guidelines for future events held on its trains.

"Since 2021, KTMB has clarified that the train can be used for charter for corporate activities.

"The activities in question may not have been clearly communicated to KTMB. However, there are guidelines in place, including the prohibition of alcoholic beverages, which are set as preconditions.

"Sometimes what happened was beyond KTMB's control," he said during a press conference during a working visit to Wisma Monorail, here.

Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing a group of passengers holding a party in a KTMB carriage, believed to have taken place in Kuala Lumpur.

KTMB, in a statement earlier, announced that it would improve and enhance the guidelines for its charter train services in the interest of the public and the company.

This followed the controversy over the organisation of a party to celebrate the 'Pinkish Festival' anniversary on a chartered train traveling to and from Kuala Lumpur Station to Serendah last Thursday.

KTMB also informed that the rentee had complied with the conditions set by the company.
