KANGAR: The Kangar Municipal Council is prioritising efforts to increase the state's revenue.
It aims to do so primarily by addressing the burden of outstanding assessment tax arrears of RM26 million.
The Council's new president Affendi Rajini Kanth said one of his priorities would be to boost the state's revenue.
He hopes to achieve this by ensuring higher tax collection compared with previous years.
"Previously, the estimated tax collection was around RM30 million. We aim for a 10 per cent increase this year. To achieve this, we will ensure that this year's collection surpasses last year's.
"We have identified a formula to achieve the 10 per cent target.
"Our goal is to significantly contribute to the state's income," he said at a press conference here today.
Affendi has outlined 31 initiatives to be implemented by the Kangar Municipal Council to ensure it is financially stable in performing daily municipal tasks.
"This is a significant responsibility as we move towards becoming a developed state. We also want the Kangar Municipal Council to operate as a business entity, which means we need to generate profits and income for the state.
"This is crucial to ensure the state's financial stability. What's important is that the state is our priority, followed by the Kangar Municipal Council, rather than personal interests," he said.
