Family of three killed in morning fire in Balik Pulau

BALIK PULAU: A woman and her two children died when a fire razed their shop lot here this morning.

The deceased have been identified as Nurul Bowjiya, 58, her son Muhammad Ibrahim, 33, and daughter Rahbiah Jasmin, 20.

The siblings' other brother who survived the incident, Rashideen, 30, told police that he along with his mother and brother, had initially managed to run out of the premises.

However, they heard the younger sister calling for help from inside.

"My mother and brother then went inside again to help save my sister," he said.

"Sadly, none of them made it out alive."

Authorities were alerted to the incident at about 7.02am and rushed to the scene.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said they were alerted to the fire at Kedai Perniagaan Muhammad Saida next to BSN Balik Pulau.

He said that firefighters managed to put out the fire by 8.50am.

"At about 10am, they managed to locate all the victims," he said.
