KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has agreed to another extension of the deadline for the declaration of assets by two of Tun Dr Mahathir's sons.
However, its chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, did not specify the new extension period.
He said the lawyers for Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir and his brother, Mirzan, have already been in touch with MACC investigators regarding the extension.
"We (MACC) have already set the deadline for them to declare their assets, so we have agreed on that.
"I am granting them additional time to declare their assets," he told reporters after attending the pre-launch ceremony of a publishing project and integrity values implementation programme (anti-corruption) joint venture between MACC and the Malaysia Institute of Translation and Books (ITBM) held at Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre.
Present at the event was Education director-general Azman Adnan.
On Monday, Azam had said he was leaving it up to MACC investigators to decide whether to grant the extension.
It was previously reported that Mokhzani and Mirzan were supposed to declare their assets on May 25 and May 29, respectively.
Before that, the two had been given an extension by the MACC in February.
On Jan 18, MACC summoned Mirzan, the eldest of Dr Mahathir's children, to facilitate an ongoing investigation into his wealth and issued a notice under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009 to declare his assets, all movable and immovable assets, whether inside or outside the country, within 30 days.
His younger brother, Mokhzani, is being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 and was also required to declare his assets to the graft buster within the same stipulated period.
