Pahang cops launch manhunt for suspect linked to murder of Cameron Highlands gardener

KUANTAN: An Indonesian national has gone into hiding after allegedly murdering his countryman and injuring another during a fight by the roadside at Tringkap in Cameron Highlands on May 30.

A 50-year-old contract gardener was found dead in a pool of blood in the 11pm incident while his friend in his 30s was found with severe injuries some 500m from the victim's body.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the suspect identified as 'Deni' in his 30s is on the run and is believed to be still in the district.

"Police have tracked down and questioned his employer in Cameron Highlands. We have managed to obtain his passport and will release a picture of the wanted suspect soon.

"Investigations revealed that both victims were attacked with a sharp object resulting in serious injuries but police have yet to recover the murder weapon.

"The injured victim is being treated at the Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom Hospital at Cameron Highlands. We will record his statement to ascertain what had triggered the fight between them," he told reporters after attending the Pahang police monthly gathering at the police contingent headquarters here today.

Yahaya said those with information on the incident are urged to contact the police to assist investigations and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

In the incident, a misunderstanding is believed to have resulted in a fight between the trio which left one of them dead.

The dead victim, clad in a black shirt and shorts, was found by members of the public by the road shoulder while his friend was lying injured not far from his body.

After the incident, the suspect fled the scene prompting police to launch a manhunt to nab the suspect.
