Over 1 million Malaysians embrace AI literacy in record time

KUALA LUMPUR: In less than six months since its launch, over one million Malaysians have completed the "AI Untuk Rakyat" self-learning online programme on artificial intelligence (AI), surpassing the initial goal of reaching one million within one year.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo hailed this achievement as a testament to Malaysians' eagerness to embrace digital literacy and AI education.

"The rapid uptake of 'AI untuk Rakyat' underscores Malaysians' eagerness to embrace digital literacy and AI education.

"This milestone demonstrates our collective commitment to building a digitally-inclusive society and preparing our citizens for the opportunities and challenges of the future with a digital-first mindset.

"This remarkable response to the programme also signifies a significant shift towards a more technologically adept populace, laying the foundation for Malaysia to thrive in the digital age," he said in a statement today.

Launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Jan 16, "AI untuk Rakyat" underscores the government's unwavering dedication to equipping Malaysians with essential knowledge about AI.

The programme comprises two modules: AI Aware and AI Appreciate. Participants receive digital badges upon completing each module, highlighting their achievements in understanding and appreciating AI.

The programme also boasts inclusivity and multilingual access, offering Malay, English, Tamil, and Mandarin content.

Meanwhile, Gobind added that AI literacy initiatives would be expanded to equip Malaysians with essential digital skills further.

"Through sustained efforts and collaborations with public and private sector organisations, we aim to empower individuals and support our nation's journey towards becoming a digitally driven, high-income nation and a regional leader in the digital economy."
