KUALA LUMPUR: PKR will discuss the candidate for the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election in Pulau Pinang, this afternoon.
PKR vice president, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the matter will be discussed together with PKR President, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and several party leaders.
"This afternoon, there is a meeting with the president, election director, Rafizi Ramli, PKR Penang chairman, Nurul Izzah Anwar and several other leaders," he told reporters after officiating the 26th International Surveyor Congress here, today.
Asked about rumours that Barisan Nasional will field a candidate for the seat, he said he is unaware of the move.
"I don't know... I am from PKR," he said briefly.
The Election Commission (EC) has fixed July 6 for the Sungai Bakap by-election.
The by-election will be held following the death of its assemblyman, Pas' Nor Zamri Latiff, on May 24.
EC deputy chairman Professor Azmi Sharom said the nomination of candidates for the by-election would be held on June 22, while early voting is set for July 2.
Azmi also said that the by-election will see 39,279 voters going to the polls and that the EC will allocate RM2.1 million.
