NIBONG TEBAL: PKR Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek sensed a wind of change in the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election.
Fadhlina, who is also education minister, said the people of Sungai Bakap wanted change.
"There is a bright possibility for the unity government candidate to win the Sungai Bakap state seat this time," she told newsmen at SK Sungai Bakap here today.
The by-election is being called following the death of Sungai Bakap assemblyman, Nor Zamri Latiff (Pas), on May 24.
The unity government had named former educator Dr Joohari Ariffin, 60, as its candidate of choice.
Perikatan Nasional (PN) named Nor Zamri's special officer, Abidin Ismail, to represent the coalition.
Political analysts had told the "New Straits Times" that both the unity government and PN candidates stood an equal chance of winning the by-election on July 6.
Fadhlina said the people needed a quality leader, who can lead Sungai Bakap in a better direction, holistically, including from the aspects of infrastructure development, economy, social, religion, unity and education.
"The candidate fielded by the unity government, Joohari, is a knowledgeable educator with extensive leadership experience.
"He is a native of Sungai Bakap who understands the pulse of the local community.
"Therefore, I call on the voters in Sungai Bakap to give their full support to Joohari and the unity government," she added.
Fadhlina said this was important in ensuring the development agenda could proceed well.
