Fatal food poisoning: Father of teen who died says mee hoon didn't smell bad

KUALA LUMPUR: The mee hoon which was suspected to have caused food poisoning that led to the death of teenager Luth Izhar Kamal did not smell bad.

The 17-year-old's father, Kamal Baihan, said he had asked his son to check the food first before he ate it.

He said it was the norm for Luth Izhar to check food before he ate it, and that was what he had done to the mee hoon and egg which was brought home on the day of his death.

"I smelled it first when it was brought back by my wife and it didn't smell bad. When Luth ate it, he asked for an extra egg from his elder sister as she didn't eat hers," he said.

The father of three said he will treasure the memory of joking around with his youngest child two days ago.

"If there are quarters who want to carry out investigations, that is up to them. We as a family accept Luth's death as being ordained by the Almighty," said Kamal.

Meanwhile, Luth Izhar's cousin, Iskhandar Zazumi, said the teen was a quiet person with a good heart.

He said the last time they had met was for tahlil prayers for their late grandmother who had passed on May 23.

Luth Izhar was buried at the Sungai Pasu Muslim cemetery about 2.30pm today.
