KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has, for the fourth time, maintained its position in the top 200 of the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, reflecting the university's commitment to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The university obtained an overall score of 85.6 in THE Impact Rankings 2024, which is the only global performance tables that assess universities against the UNSDGs.
Out of the eight SDGs participated in this year, Gender Equality (SDG5) became UiTM's highest-scoring SDG, with the university ranked in 46th place.
The university, in a statement, said this places UiTM among the top 50 universities worldwide for Gender Equality.
UiTM, the statement said, also ranks among the Top 300 for three SDGs, which are SDG4 "Quality Education", SDG7 "Affordable and Clean Energy", and SDG16 "Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions".
The university's vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr. Shahrin bin Sahib @ Sahibuddin said this is the fourth year that UiTM has maintained its position among the top 200 globally for sustainable development.
"As such, UiTM intends to maintain its commitment to excellence through impactful education and research, with sustainability remaining a significant focus in our next UiTM2030 strategic plan." he said.
