Shuhaily: Close yet far from expected outcome in Zayn Rayyan case [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite being proud of the achievements of his subordinates, Bukit Aman's Federal Criminal Investigation Department director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the conclusion of the murder case of special needs child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin was unexpected.

This is because the outcome of the case did not lead to the expected charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, but that under Section 31 of the Child Act 2001.

Mohd Shuhaily, however, acknowledged that the decision to charge under the Child Act was the best possible outcome as agreed upon by the Prosecution and Legal Division (D5) of the CID and the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office.

"We are so close yet so far," he said, indicating the police were close to solving the case but encountered obstacles at the final stage.

He commended the dedication of his officers and staff, who have been tirelessly working on the case for the past six months.

"They have been working day and night, sincerely carrying out their duties and responsibilities. They deserve the deepest appreciation," he said during a special press conference held by the CID in Bukit Aman this morning.

Mohd Shuhaily also urged the public to refrain from making speculative statements or spreading inaccurate information regarding the investigation.

He emphasised that the complete evidence would be revealed during the court proceedings expected in July.

"We urge the public not to make any comments or speculations that can confuse the community. The only accurate statements will come from the police," he said, warning that strict action would be taken against any party violating laws that could affect the investigation and trial.
