KOTA KINABALU: Any discussion between the Borneo states and the federal government regarding the devolution of tourism issues would be good.
Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said it is a positive development for both states to work on this issue.
Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Hamzah mentioned that the discussion would determine how much control the federal Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry (Motac) would relinquish over tourism matters in the two Borneo territories.
"Whatever the rights of Sabah and Sarawak, it's never too late to process them.
"I have not read (Karim's) full statement. If there is such a thing, I will bring it to the attention of our Chief Minister.
"Let the Chief Minister and the person representing the Sabah Government, Datuk Seri Dr. Jeffrey Kitingan, bring this issue up in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (meeting)," she told the media during the state PKR 25th anniversary at the state International Convention Centre here.
Karim had also said that tourism should have been under the residual list until the federal government moved it to the federal list.
Karim also hinted that one area under discussion was the licensing of tourist guides and agents for Sarawak-Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H).
