ARAU: Petrol station owners in Kelantan have been warned against selling RON95 petrol to people who had just recently bought the fuel.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry deputy director-general (operations), Shamsul Nizam Khalil, said some individuals made repeated purchases of RON95 in order to smuggle it out of the country.
"We detected the activity at several stations. So we have instructed all petrol stations in Kelantan not to allow repeat purchases of RON95.
"Syndicate members use Malaysian-registered cars. They buy up to 60 litres, which should cover 500 to 600 kilometres.
"However, they refuel in a short time, suggesting that the RON95 is being diverted across the border," he told reporters here today.
He added that the directive would be extended to the other border states — Perlis, Kedah and Perak.
"This directive was in place in Kelantan before the government implemented the targeted diesel subsidy.
"Our officers are stationed at the petrol stations and can review CCTV footage. If caught, petrol station operators may have their licences suspended or revoked."
