KOTA BARU: A total of 48 out of 245 petrol stations in Kelantan within a radius of 25km from the border will be under scrutiny to avoid repeated purchases of RON95 petrol by the same vehicle.
State Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Azman Ismail said repeated purchases for the same vehicle in less than one hour are not permitted.
He said a letter will be issued to all gas station operators in the state to report to the ministry if they find vehicles that repeatedly fill up RON95.
"At the same time, we will station officers at petrol stations at the border such as at Pengkalan Kubor, Rantau Panjang and Bukit Bunga.
"Those who do so will be dealt with strictly because we believe they are smugglers," he said when contacted today.
Earlier, the media reported that repeated purchases of RON95 within an hour of filling up at all petrol stations in Kelantan were no longer allowed to avoid the subsidised fuel from being diverted to neighboring countries.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry deputy director-general (operations), Shamsul Nizam Khalil, said some individuals made repeated purchases of RON95 in order to smuggle it out of the country.
Azman said he hoped that the petrol station operators will cooperate with the ministry and channeling the information.
